Are building permits public in Minnesota?
Short answer: Generally yes. Under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, government data is presumed public unless a law classifies it otherwise (Minn. Stat. § 13.03).
What's in a record
Minneapolis' open permit data includes the address, permit number, type, description, declared value, issue date and applicant.
Our stance
We leave out homeowner names and phone numbers, and we don't support cold calls or texts to homeowners.
