Top Minneapolis neighborhoods for roofing permits

By Exterior Permits ·

Minneapolis issued 2,322 residential roofing permits from October 2025 to September 2026, spread across 77 neighborhoods. They weren't spread evenly. The 10 busiest neighborhoods had 834 of them, about 36% of the city's total.

If you sell roofing in Minneapolis, here's where the work was, how it moved through the year, and how to use the list.

The top 10

"Applicants" is the number of different names that pulled roofing permits in that neighborhood. Median value is the declared permit value, not the final job price. Citywide, the median was $12,000.

Waite Park was in a league of its own

Waite Park, in northeast Minneapolis, had 213 roofing permits, more than twice as many as any other neighborhood. And most of them came late: 152 were issued from July to September 2026. That's about 71% of its year in three months, and about 18% of all Minneapolis roofing permits in that quarter (152 of 856).

September alone brought 50 Waite Park roofing permits, the most of any neighborhood that month.

It was also busy for other trades: 308 exterior permits in total, the most of any neighborhood. The most active roofing applicants there were NexGen Exteriors (8), New Life Contracting (7) and Royal Restoration (7). With 127 different applicants, no one company owned it.

The data doesn't say why Waite Park spiked. Before you put "storm damage" on a mailer, check public weather reports. Our guide to storm damage roofing leads shows how.

Southwest: steady and higher value

Three of the top five are in southwest Minneapolis: Linden Hills, Fulton and Lynnhurst.

  • Linden Hills (99 permits) had a median permit value of $13,766. Kaufman Sheet Metal Roofing pulled 13 of its roofing permits and Summit Construction Group 7.
  • Lynnhurst (77) had the highest median value in the top 10, $14,995, and Kaufman pulled 14 of its permits. It was also the least fall-heavy: 20 permits from October to December 2025 and 16 from July to September 2026.
  • Fulton (82) had 49 different applicants. Kaufman pulled 11.

None of them spiked like Waite Park. Their roofing work came in more evenly through the year, which makes them good ground for steady mailers rather than one big push.

Audubon Park: wide open

Audubon Park had 84 roofing permits pulled by 75 different applicants. No company pulled 5 or more there. For a roofer looking for a neighborhood without an entrenched leader, that's about as open as it gets.

Audubon Park shares ZIP 55418 with Waite Park. Between them, they had 292 of the 408 roofing permits in that ZIP, which led the city.

The rest of the top 10

  • Diamond Lake (64) and King Field (58) each had 27 permits from July to September 2026, a strong late summer for both.
  • Howe (53) is better known for windows: it led the city in window and door permits. Its roofing work is steady, with Kaufman pulling 8.
  • Northrop and Lind - Bohanon tied at 52. Lind - Bohanon, in the far north, is the only top-10 neighborhood mostly in ZIP 55430.

By ZIP

If you plan routes or mailers by ZIP, these were the top ZIPs for roofing permits over the same 12 months:

55417 289
55419 262
55406 240
55410 210

How to use this list

Pick two or three neighborhoods, not the whole city. A short list lets you mail the same streets more than once and get known there.

Match your timing to the neighborhood. Waite Park was a late-summer story. Lynnhurst and Linden Hills were steadier. Plan heavy mailing for the months that neighborhood is busy.

Mail around each new permit. Over a third of Minneapolis roofing permits were followed by another roofing permit within about 500 feet in the next 90 days. See mailing the neighbors of a permitted job.

Watch who's working there. In Linden Hills, Fulton and Lynnhurst, Kaufman Sheet Metal Roofing pulled 11 to 14 roofing permits each. In Audubon Park, no company pulled 5 or more. That changes how hard it is to break in.

Check it every month. Rankings shift fast. Our monthly permit report updates the busiest neighborhoods each month, and the roofing permits page has the 12-month view.
