How to look up Minneapolis building permits

Short answer: For one address, use the City's Historic Property Permits Dashboard. For all permits at once, use the CCS_Permits dataset on the City's open data portal.

Look up one address

  1. Open the City's Historic Property Permits Dashboard.
  2. Search by address or permit number on the City's dashboard.
  3. For the owner, taxpayer and neighborhood, use the City's Property Information Search.

Get every permit (bulk)

  1. Go to opendata.minneapolismn.gov and open CCS_Permits (or search "CCS_Permits").
  2. Filter permitType = Res and pick an issue-date range.
  3. Download CSV. Read comments to find the trade. There is no trade field.

Doing this every week

Filtering ~9,000 yearly records to exterior jobs, adding ZIPs and matching owner mailing addresses takes time. The Monday email does it for roofing, windows and doors, siding, solar and decks.
